ACE Reporting: A Tutorial

If you are in the import/export business, you've probably been told to get on a first-name basis with ACE. But maybe you don't know where to start? Or maybe you've been using ACE, but are looking for some tips and tricks to help you understand it better?

ACE or Automated Commercial Environment, is the database maintained by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that holds information about imports into and exports out of the US. Shipment information is transmitted to CBP via ACE, from both carriers and brokers and CBP makes admissibility decisions based on that data.

She has extensive experience with US brokerage operations, sales support, solutions and implementations and project management. In her current role, Kelly has Compliance oversight of and provides regulatory support for, UPS’s brokerage offices on both the Northern Border and Southern Border. Kelly is an active member of both the Northern Border Customs Brokers Association (NBCBA) and NCBFAA and resides in Detroit MI.

Staurt Schmidt

Customs Brokerage Compliance Manager, UPS

As a Trade Services Manager for UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Inc., Stuart is a member of the UPS Corporate Compliance team that ensures UPS compliance procedures align with both Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Partner Government Agency regulations. In addition to providing consulting services to UPS customers, he serves as an internal subject matter expert for Trade Agreements, Foreign Trade Zones, Anti-dumping/Countervailing Duty and numerous Partner Government Agency programs.

Matt has been with UPS for over 26 years, most of which he has spent helping clients understand Brokerage. He has specialized in power of attorney and Customs bond policies and practices, providing expertise on international import and export compliance for 43 supported destination countries. In his current role as a Global Brokerage Compliance Supervisor for Customs Brokerage Compliance, Matt supports power of attorney policies, bonds practices, US compliance initiatives and former UPS i-parcel lanes.
